Heavy Rains Drench Lucknow for Second Consecutive Day; Orange Alert Issued for Multiple UP Districts
Lucknow, August 5, 2026 – The state capital remained under the influence of active monsoon conditions for the second consecutive day as significant rainfall continued to soak the city and surrounding areas.
According to data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Lucknow district recorded 40.2 mm of rainfall between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm on Tuesday. The observatory at Amausi airport registered the highest amount in the city at 66.6 mm, followed by Hanuman Setu at 30.4 mm, Lucknow Control Room in Aliganj at 25.8 mm, Bani at 25 mm, Malihabad at 20 mm, and Mohanlalganj at 18.2 mm.
The heavy downpour has reduced the seasonal rainfall deficit in Lucknow from 42 per cent to 34 per cent in a single day. Since June 1, the city has received 227.7 mm of rain against the long-period average of 345.9 mm.
Waterlogging was reported in several localities, including Vijayant Khand in Gomti Nagar, Gomtinagar, Indiranagar, Hussainabad, Faizullahganj, Jankipuram Extension, and Sarojini Nagar. The rainfall also led to a noticeable drop in daytime temperatures, which fell from 33.9 degrees Celsius on Monday to 29.5 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.
Senior scientist Atul Kumar Singh of the Regional Meteorological Centre stated that the ongoing weather pattern is expected to result in a further drop in day temperatures by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius, providing relief from the prevailing humid conditions.
For Wednesday, the IMD has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall in 12 districts of Uttar Pradesh: Banda, Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, Fatehpur, Kanpur Dehat, Kanpur City, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, and Hamirpur. A yellow alert for a high probability of heavy rainfall covers 40 districts, including Lucknow, Barabanki, Amethi, Prayagraj, Pratapgarh, Mirzapur, Gorakhpur, Basti, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Balrampur, Shravasti, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Hardoi, and several others.
The monsoon trough has shifted towards Delhi, Shahjahanpur, and Chhapra, strengthening the monsoon flow. Active conditions with widespread rainfall and isolated heavy to very heavy rain are expected to persist over the next two to three days across the state.
Elsewhere in Uttar Pradesh, heavy rainfall was recorded at Chibramau in Kannauj (125 mm), Nanpara in Bahraich (104 mm), Chakar Nagar in Etawah (100 mm), Ayodhya (94.8 mm), and several other locations.
Residents have been advised to exercise caution amid the continued rainfall and potential for further waterlogging and traffic disruptions in the coming days.
