Heavy-Vehicle Diversion Moves From Junabganj to Daroga Khera

Home » Heavy-Vehicle Diversion Moves From Junabganj to Daroga Khera

Lucknow traffic police have shifted the heavy-vehicle diversion point from Junabganj to Daroga Khera on a trial basis. Heavy vehicles will now be directed towards Kisan Path, the Outer Ring Road, instead of being diverted at Junabganj.

The change is intended to reduce pressure on the Kanpur Road corridor and other city roads. Officials will monitor the new arrangement before deciding whether to continue it or make further changes.

In Short

  • The Junabganj diversion has been withdrawn on a trial basis.
  • Heavy vehicles will be diverted towards Kisan Path from Daroga Khera.
  • The trial is meant to ease congestion on Kanpur Road and other Lucknow roads.
  • Traffic officials will assess vehicle flow, congestion and commuter convenience.

How the trial works

Under the new arrangement, through heavy traffic will reach Kisan Path from Daroga Khera. Kisan Path forms a peripheral route around Lucknow and is being used to keep heavy vehicles away from congested city stretches.

DCP (Traffic) Raveena Tyagi said the shift aims to reduce the pressure of heavy vehicles on the Kanpur Road corridor and other roads. The withdrawal of the Junabganj point is temporary while officials assess the effect of the change.

What officials will watch

The traffic police will monitor how vehicles move through the new point, whether congestion levels change, and how the arrangement affects commuter convenience. The findings will guide a decision on retaining the diversion or changing it again.

The move adds a fresh variable to a city traffic network already affected by road works and bottlenecks. Lucknow has previously documented traffic disruption from rain, a road cave-in and a protest in its traffic-chaos report, while the police have also discussed upgrading traffic-jam response teams.

Why it matters

The diversion changes the route used by freight traffic entering the city and places Daroga Khera and Kisan Path at the centre of the trial. Its success will depend on whether it takes pressure off Kanpur Road without creating a new bottleneck around the diversion point or the peripheral road.
