IPL Betting Racket Busted, Three Men Arrested
Lucknow: Three men were arrested on Monday for running a betting racket on the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) matches. The men, identified as Mohammad Shehbaz, 30, Abaad Ahmed, 47 and Mohammad Humayun, 30, were all residents of Lucknow.
The police said that they had received a tip-off about the betting racket and raided a house in Ashiyana locality. During the raid, the police recovered ₹44,000 cash, 10 mobile phones, two bikes and a few registers from the men.
The police said that the men had been betting on two teams of IPL namely Chennai Super King and Kolkata Knight Riders. They had earned ₹44,000 from different sources by betting on the matches.
The men have been booked under section 13G of the Public Gaming Act, 1867 (person found gaming or reasonably suspected).
The police are still searching for one other member of the gang, Nasim, who is a resident of Hamirpur.
The arrest of the three men is a major breakthrough for the police and it is a warning to other people who are involved in betting on IPL matches. The police have also urged people to stay away from betting and to report any suspicious activity to the police.
