Lucknow News Roundup: Mega Job Fair Opens, Temple Theft Investigated and Rain Alerts Issued
Lucknow, August 3, 2026: A mega job fair offering thousands of positions took centre stage in the state capital on Monday even as police probed a high-value theft at a prominent temple and the weather department warned of widespread rainfall.
The Regional Employment Office, in association with the IBM-1M1B Foundation, organised a mega job fair at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Gomti Nagar. Twenty private companies participated and collectively offered 2,780 vacancies. Participating firms included Airtel Payments Bank, Lenskart, Tata Motors, Utkarsh Small Finance Bank, Polymedico Limited, Shri Sai Power and Equipments Private Limited and others. Positions ranged from promoters, trainees and customer support executives to testing and commissioning engineers and business development roles. Salaries of up to Rs 35,000 per month were on offer. Both freshers and experienced candidates were eligible, with the selection process conducted free of cost. The fair forms part of ongoing efforts to link local youth with private-sector employment opportunities.
In a separate development, silver ornaments valued at approximately Rs 35 lakh were stolen from the Panchmukhi Hanuman Temple in the Mahanagar area. The stolen items included the silver crown and chhatra of the deity. Head priest Dinesh Kumar Dixit stated that he had left the premises around 10 pm the previous night. When he returned at 5.30 am, a regular devotee informed him that the lock had been broken. The crown and chhatra were missing and the CCTV DVR was also found to be absent. An FIR was registered at the Mahanagar police station. Police teams inspected the site, collected evidence and launched an investigation.
The India Meteorological Department issued alerts for rain and thunderstorms across more than 50 districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow. Isolated heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning was forecast in several areas. Residents were advised to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during intense spells.
On the political front, the Uttar Pradesh Legislature’s Monsoon Session continued. The Samajwadi Party indicated it would raise issues concerning farmers and students. The government agreed to defer debate on the supplementary budget at the opposition’s request. Separately, the Bharatiya Janata Party finalised plans for the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign. A grand Tiranga Yatra from the Chief Minister’s residence at 5, Kalidas Marg to the Vidhan Sabha has been scheduled for August 9 under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and state BJP president Pankaj Chaudhary. Broader outreach across wards and mandals is planned from August 10 to 15.
