Chota Imambara

Chota Imambara is one of the most iconic landmarks of Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh in India. It is also known as Hussainabad Imambara or the Palace of Lights. It was built by Nawab Muhammad Ali Shah in 1838 as a mausoleum for himself and his mother. The complex also houses the tombs of his relatives and descendants.

The Chota Imambara is a stunning example of Indo-Islamic architecture, with its domes, minarets, arches, and intricate decorations. The main hall of the imambara is adorned with chandeliers, lamps, mirrors, and crystal glassware. The Chota Imambara also has a beautiful garden, a mosque, a watchtower, and a ceremonial gate. The garden has a large pool with fountains and a replica of the Taj Mahal. The mosque is said to be a copy of the Jama Masjid in Delhi. The watchtower, also known as Satkhanda, was intended to be a seven-storey observatory but only four stories were completed. The ceremonial gate, called Rumi Darwaza, is a 60-foot-high structure that resembles an ancient portal in Istanbul.
