Top Lucknow News of the Day: Widespread Power Outages Affect Two Lakh Consumers Amid High Humidity
Lucknow, August 11, 2026 – The state capital experienced widespread disruption on Monday as electrical faults caused power outages lasting between four and 18 hours in several localities, affecting approximately two lakh consumers. The interruptions, occurring amid humid conditions, left residents distressed during the peak of the monsoon season.
According to reports, areas including Chinhat, Chaupatiya in the Chowk region, Nagram, Para, BKT, Bahrauli, Mir Khanagar, FCI colony and Kabir Nagar were among those hardest hit. In Chinhat and surrounding colonies such as New Gulista, Anand Vihar and Ganga Vihar, supply remained intermittent for much of the day while electricity department teams undertook excavation work to rectify faults. In Krishna Nagar’s Barigawa sector, an ABC line burn resulted in an 18-hour interruption. Similar faults involving transformer overloads, tree falls on 33 kV lines and LT fuse issues were reported from other sub-centres.
Electricity officials confirmed that restoration efforts were underway. Assistant Engineer K.K. Chaudhary attributed a temporary shutdown in Chaupatiya to the installation of an LT fuse unit, while Sub-Divisional Officer A.K. Singh stated that the Chinhat fault had been repaired and supply restored. Junior Engineer R.K. Shukla noted that a new line had been installed in the affected Krishna Nagar stretch.
Meanwhile, weather conditions added to the discomfort. After a week of intermittent rainfall that had provided relief from heat, bright sunshine and rising humidity made outdoor conditions uncomfortable across the city. Lucknow recorded a maximum temperature of 33.9 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 28.1 degrees Celsius on Monday, with relative humidity ranging between 75 and 88 per cent. Brief afternoon showers in Gomti Nagar, Ashiyana and Nishatganj offered temporary respite.
Senior scientist Mohammad Danish of the Regional Meteorological Centre said rainfall is likely to decrease on August 11 and 12 as the low-pressure system over Madhya Pradesh moves away. A fresh weather system developing over the northwest Bay of Bengal is expected to form a low-pressure area by August 12 and could enhance monsoon activity from August 13, with the possibility of heavy rain at some places. For Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department has forecast a generally cloudy sky becoming partly cloudy, with maximum and minimum temperatures around 35 and 26 degrees Celsius respectively.
In related infrastructure news, the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway continued to face scrutiny. Reports indicated further instances of road subsidence at additional locations. A public interest litigation has been filed in the Lucknow bench of the High Court seeking a CBI probe into alleged irregularities. An IIT Kharagpur team is conducting a technical investigation, collecting samples from affected stretches. Authorities have noted that rainfall in the corridor districts remained below normal, raising questions over earlier explanations attributing damage solely to heavy rain.
