CM Yogi Adityanath Leads Tiranga Yatra in Lucknow to Mark 101st Anniversary of Kakori Train Action
Lucknow, August 10, 2026: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday led a significant Tricolour march through the streets of Lucknow to mark the 101st anniversary of the Kakori Train Action, a landmark event in India’s freedom struggle.
The Tiranga Yatra, organised as part of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign ahead of Independence Day, began from the Chief Minister’s official residence at 5 Kalidas Marg and proceeded to the Vidhan Bhavan. Approximately 25,000 to 30,000 participants, including Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, Cabinet ministers, BJP state leaders, schoolchildren and youth from various parts of the state, took part in the procession.
Participants carried the national flag and chanted patriotic slogans such as Vande Mataram and Bharat Mata Ki Jai. A group of children carried a 101-foot-long Tricolour during the march, which was accompanied by patriotic songs.
At the Kakori Martyrs’ Memorial, Chief Minister Adityanath paid homage to the revolutionaries associated with the Kakori Train Action of August 9, 1925. These included Pt. Ram Prasad Bismil, Ashfaqulla Khan, Thakur Roshan Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad and Rajendra Nath Lahiri, among others. Booklets titled Vande Mataram and Kakori Train Action were released on the occasion, and families of brave soldiers were honoured.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister asserted that the Kakori incident was an act of resistance by freedom fighters seeking to liberate the nation from British rule and secure funds for the revolutionary movement. He criticised the historical characterisation of the event as a robbery by the colonial administration and subsequent governments. Adityanath stated that the sole objective of the revolutionaries was India’s freedom.
The Chief Minister also warned against anti-national forces that he said are misusing social media platforms to spread rumours against the country and mislead society. He remarked that internal divisions based on caste, region and language had historically weakened India and that similar conspiracies continue. He emphasised that no one can remain in India and insult its national symbols, the national anthem or the national song.
Adityanath urged every citizen to hoist the Tricolour at their homes and ensure that Vande Mataram is sung in every institution on August 15. He described the participation of youth in the yatra as a reflection of their commitment to the principle of Nation First.
Among those present were Union Minister of State for Finance and BJP State President Pankaj Chaudhary, Mayor Sushma Kharkwal, several MLAs and other public representatives.
In other developments in the state capital, the India Meteorological Department has forecast partly cloudy conditions with the possibility of light to moderate rain and thunderstorms in Lucknow. Yellow alerts for heavy rainfall have been issued for several districts across Uttar Pradesh.
Separately, police in the Madiaon area arrested a father and son duo within hours of a fatal assault on a 22-year-old man that stemmed from a dispute involving the sale of an anklet. The incident was captured on CCTV, and the victim later succumbed to his injuries at King George’s Medical University.
