Namaste Lucknowites! 🌟 Here’s your daily dose of the city’s heartbeat – the top stories making waves in our beloved City of Nawabs on this first day of August 2026.

🎓 Lucknow University’s Grand 69th Convocation

Over 1.25 lakh students (exactly 1,25,285 – with more women than men!) walked away with their degrees at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Scientific Convention Centre. Governor Anandiben Patel, as Chancellor, conferred the degrees and awarded 204 medals to 111 meritorious students (81 of them women!).

In a progressive move, all degrees and marksheets are now available on DigiLocker – no more hard copies needed. The Governor also pulled up the university administration over vacant hostels, non-functional messes, missing Wi-Fi and washing machines, and urged quick action. She appealed to the new graduates to stay away from drugs and actively join the upcoming “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Abhiyan” that PM Modi will inaugurate tomorrow.

🥇 Historic Gold for UP Police SI Asmita Dey!

What a proud moment for Lucknow and Uttar Pradesh! Sub-Inspector Asmita Dey of UP Police scripted history by becoming the first Indian judoka to win a Commonwealth Games gold medal (Women’s 48kg) in Glasgow.

CM Yogi Adityanath and DGP Rajeev Krishna personally congratulated her, calling it a “golden chapter” in Indian sport. Asmita, who joined UP Police under the sports quota, dedicated the medal to everyone who supported her – especially thanking Yogi Ji for the opportunity. From a humble background in Tripura (daughter of a bicycle mechanic), her journey is pure inspiration!

🌾 Scholarship Boost for Farmers’ Children

CM Yogi Adityanath has directed the expansion of the Mukhyamantri Krishak Chhatravritti Yojana so that more meritorious children of farmers can benefit. This was announced during the UP State Agricultural Produce Market Council meeting where a ₹3,025 crore budget for 2026-27 was also approved.

🔥 LPG Alert for 7 Lakh Lucknow Consumers

If you haven’t done your e-KYC yet, hurry! Nearly 7 lakh domestic LPG consumers in Lucknow still need to complete it by August 15. Missing the deadline could mean paying commercial rates for your cylinders. Visit your gas agency, use the IndianOil ONE app, or complete it with the delivery person.

Also on the radar: Smart RC for vehicles starts from today across UP, and monsoon continues to play hide-and-seek with a significant rainfall deficit.

Stay safe, stay proud, and keep the Lucknow spirit high! 💛
