Hussainabad Clock Tower, also known as the Ghantaghar, is one of the most iconic landmarks of Lucknow, the capital city of the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The clock tower is a magnificent structure that stands tall in the heart of the bustling city and is one of the few surviving examples of British colonial architecture in the region.

Built in 1881, the Hussainabad Clock Tower was commissioned by the then-ruler of Awadh, Nawab Nasir-ud-din Haider, who was known for his love for grand architecture and his desire to create a modern and cosmopolitan city. The tower was designed by Roskell Bayne, a renowned British architect who was also responsible for designing many other prominent structures in Lucknow, including the Chattar Manzil and the Lal Baradari.

The tower is located in the middle of a large public square known as the Hussainabad Imambara, which is also home to several other historic buildings, including the Hussainabad Picture Gallery, the Roshan-ud-Daula Kothi, and the Satkhanda.

The Hussainabad Clock Tower is a beautiful example of Victorian-Gothic architecture and is adorned with intricate carvings, ornate balconies, and arched windows. The clock face itself is over 14 feet in diameter and is one of the largest clocks in India.

The clock was manufactured by the renowned clockmakers, the Benson Company of England, and is still in perfect working condition today.

The tower was originally built as part of a larger complex that was designed to serve as the royal court of the Nawab of Awadh. The complex was meant to be a symbol of the grandeur and power of the Nawab and was built at a time when Lucknow was one of the wealthiest and most culturally vibrant cities in India.

Over the years, the clock tower has become an important symbol of the city of Lucknow and is a popular tourist attraction. Visitors come from all over the world to see the beautiful architecture, take in the panoramic views from the top of the tower, and learn about the rich history and culture of the region.
