Fragrance Park
Lala Lajpat Rai Fragrance Park is the new scented garden in old Lucknow, on Lajpat Nagar ground opposite the Hussainabad Clock Tower. LDA built it on a former dump with help from CSIR-NBRI. Defence minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated it at the end of August 2026; public entry followed from 1 September 2026. It is not a Gomti Nagar lawn and not a substitute for Lohia Park. You come for aromatic beds, a short heritage-zone walk, and a pause between Imambaras.
History
Hindustan Times on 30 August 2026 described a roughly 2.2-acre site developed at about Rs 5 crore, with fragrant and medicinal plants, an open-air theatre, statues of Lala Lajpat Rai and Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Braille plant plaques, ramps, a red sandstone path, and plans for an interpretation centre and a small flower parlour. Times of India had earlier called it Uttar Pradesh’s first fragrance park in the Hussainabad heritage belt, with jasmine, champa, parijat, chandni and imported varieties chosen so different seasons smell different. Citizen Voice and local reports placed the cost near Rs 3.4 to 4 crore depending on the briefing; treat gate boards as final for fees.
The point of the park is simple: old Lucknow already had stone and shadow. LDA added scent and a maintained walk between Rumi Darwaza, the Clock Tower, and the Imambara axis. That is why the location matters more than another suburban green.
What to see
Walk the planted loops and read the species plaques. Morning and evening hold the strongest fragrance; midday heat flattens it. Look for the amphitheatre and fountain when they are running. The freedom-fighter statues are photo stops, not a museum lecture. Pair the visit with Chota Imambara or Bara Imambara only if you still have legs; do not stack every Hussainabad ticket into one humid hour.
NBRI’s plant advice shows in the labelling habit: the park wants you to learn names, not only inhale. That educational layer is what separates it from a generic lawn. If Braille plaques and ramps are your access need, this is one of the more deliberate new LDA gardens in the old city.
Visiting
Secondary listings after opening commonly show daily hours around 8:00 am to 8:00 pm and entry near Rs 15, with tickets at the counter or online. We did not capture a durable LDA tariff PDF on 18 September 2026. Confirm hours and fee at the gate before you plan a tight metro connection. Event nights (music bookings have already appeared on the lawn) may change access and price; those tickets are separate from ordinary park entry.
Autos know Clock Tower, Hussainabad, and Lajpat Nagar. The park sits in the same cluster as the Clock Tower and Picture Gallery. Wear shoes you can walk in; carry water. Winter mornings are the kindest. For a longer old-city day, keep Aminabad shopping or a Chowk evening for another clock slot.
Nearby
Clock Tower, Rumi Darwaza, Chota Imambara, Bara Imambara, Satkhanda, and the Hussainabad Picture Gallery are the natural loop. Hazratganj is the calmer evening if you are done with lanes.
