Uttar Pradesh Steps Up Flood Relief Operations, Nearly 20,000 Evacuated Across Multiple Districts

The Uttar Pradesh government has ramped up disaster response operations as rising river waters affect multiple districts across the state. According to recent reports published by the Times of India, authorities have successfully evacuated 19,496 people to safer locations, with around 6,000 residents moved to safety on Monday alone. Officials have confirmed that no human or cattle casualties have been reported so far.

To manage the crisis, the administration has established 1,634 relief posts and 1,315 temporary shelters. A massive logistics network has been deployed to support displaced families. This includes 2,161 boats and motorboats operating in inundated areas. Relief distribution includes over 6.83 lakh meal packets and 1.11 lakh relief kits containing essential daily supplies.

Health and sanitation remain a priority in the affected regions. Reports indicate that 1,072 medical teams have been deployed on the ground. Additionally, authorities have distributed over 6.68 lakh chlorine tablets to ensure safe drinking water and 2.60 lakh ORS packets to prevent waterborne illnesses. Property damage is also being addressed, with financial and material assistance provided in 1,272 out of 1,490 reported cases of damaged houses.

The administrative response spans several vulnerable districts. Regions facing the impact include Ayodhya, Azamgarh, Bahraich, Badaun, Ballia, Barabanki, Basti, Chandauli, Farrukhabad, Ghazipur, Gonda, Gorakhpur, Hardoi, Kasganj, Kanpur Nagar, Lakhimpur Kheri, Mirzapur, Moradabad, Prayagraj, Rae Bareli, Sant Kabir Nagar, Rampur, Sitapur, Shahjahanpur, Unnao, and Varanasi. This statewide mobilization builds upon earlier reviews of flood relief in Chitrakoot and ongoing flood control measures across Uttar Pradesh as rivers continue to cross danger marks, compounding challenges seen in urban pockets like Varanasi waterlogging and local river rises.
